LSEG analysis also pointed to higher solar and wind output, and to higher hard-coal generation availability.
Germany's day-ahead baseload contract dropped by 25.1% to 58 euros per megawatt hour (MWh)($66.79) at 0745 GMT.
French day-ahead baseload was 1% down at 52 euros. The country does not observe the holiday.

Temperatures were due to gain 1.5 degrees Celsius on average next week over Wednesday levels at a time of year when power demand is increasingly ruled by the timing and intensity of power-driven air conditioning use.
Along the forward curve, German year-ahead baseload inched up by 0.4% to 93 euros/MWh while the French equivalent was 0.6% up at 67.1 euros/MWh.
In the European carbon market, the benchmark contract nudged up 0.3% to 74.85 euros a metric ton.
Spanish grid operator REE's failure to calculate the correct mix of energy was one of the factors hindering the country's grid's ability to cope with a surge in voltage that led to the massive blackout across Iberia on April 28, a government investigation concluded on Tuesday.
The government said it would push to further integrate the peninsula with the European grid. ($1 = 0.8684 euros) (Reporting by Vera Eckert; Editing by XXX)
