1939’s Strange Neon vs Wireless Battle Strange but true: in the shadow of looming global conflict, the House of Commons was debating glowing shopfronts. Mr. Gallacher, an MP with a sharp tongue, stood up and asked the Postmaster-General a peculiar but pressing question. How many complaints had rolled in about wireless sets being ruined by neon signage? The reply turned heads: the Department had received nearly one thousand reports from frustrated licence-payers.

Picture it: real neon signs online ordinary families huddled around a crackling set, desperate for dance music or speeches from the King, only to hear static and buzzing from the local cinema’s neon sign.
