As much as I love them, flashbacks simply don’t facilitate an approach like this. They’re an elusive manner of storytelling by design, providing brief snapshots of memories as we’re left to fill in the blanks for ourselves. It informed the overall tone and thematic delivery of the last FromSoftware Game evolution, but now that enigmatic atmosphere has subsided, it’s time to commit to something more definitive.

Spectacle is all well and good, but it’s short-lived, and doesn’t stick in your mind like the haunting corridors of Raccoon City Police Station. I’m not going to remember the Lady Dimitrescu boss battle for years to come, but Leon’s first hesitant steps into Raccoon City are already cemented into my mind. Resident Evil 4 is filled with moments like this. Despite being a rollercoaster ride of gunfights and boss battles, it never fails in making you feel vulnerable. Leon could have a fully upgraded arsenal at his disposal, but not taking his surroundings into account would lead to an untimely de

Resident Evil 4 uses a control scheme that many players consider to be dated. In a departure from more modern third-person shooter controls, the protagonist and fan-favorite character Leon can't strafe, with left or right inputs on the controller rotating him in place. While this might feel unintuitive at first, and it certainly takes a little bit of getting used to for new players, it's actually an important design cho

When it comes to gameplay, Code Veronica is almost two times longer than Resident Evil 3: Nemesis . On average, it takes about 11.5 hours to beat a Code Veronica campaign (X or original). Meanwhile, it takes gamers about 6.5 hours to beat the original RE3 . The remake for RE3 takes even less time to beat, with an estimated average six hours of gamep

For the most part, she's unintrusive. The player can instruct her to wait behind or hide before a fight breaks out but when the action escalates, it can occasionally feel like she lacks even the most basic self-preservation sensibilities. Improvements in AI technology achieved since the original game came out will hopefully allow Capcom to change Ashley and give her more agency and purpose in the rem

Breath of the Wild tells an achingly human tale, but to uncover it you’ll need to invest dozens of hours into scouring Hyrule in search of brief cutscenes that chronicle Link and Zelda’s doomed pilgrimage in search of allies. None of the flashbacks are told with any sense of chronology, so you’ll stumble across them randomly and be forced to work out exactly what is going on and how it factors into the overall adventure. This mirrors Link’s own amnesia, so it feels like we’ve truly been placed in his shoes, trying to work out how our friends were lost and what we can do to save whatever it is they left behind.

However, the next rumored remake in the RE series is Resident Evil 4 , speculated to be released sometime in 2022. The events of RE4 takes place a whole six years after RE2 . If the RE4 remake releases before a Code Veronica remake then chronological order obviously isn't that important to Capcom. However, even if Capcom doesn't maintain chronological order, there is still a chance Code Veronica will be updated for next gen consoles. The drive to maintain chronological order would just mean the remake of Code Veronica could see an earlier release than expec

Despite Breath of the Wild being recognised as a masterpiece, its storytelling aspects are one of its most criticised elements. Given the nature of its narrative, and how Link finds himself awakening a century after the world began to fall apart, it’s natural that a number of critical characters have either perished, moved on, or just aren’t part of the picture anymore. It’s a lonely game, but deliberately so.

The Resident Evil franchise has always had a goofy, B-movie charm that makes up a large part of the series' character. Campy one-liners, embarrassing voice acting, and outrageous monsters channel the feel of a low-budget horror film on late-night television, contributing levity and charm to the experience without undermining the sca

As mentioned earlier, the game can get pretty intense with the number of villagers hounding after Leon. Some areas, like the early village sections, are interesting puzzles. Where is the best place to set up shop in order to take the horde out most effectively? It makes the player really th

Code Veronica , despite not being numerically titled, appears to be more of a direct sequel than RE3: Nemesis . Redfield's motivation to find her brother carries over from RE2 to Code Veronica , showing tremendous plot continuity between both games. Whereas, RE3 was just another viewpoint from the Raccoon City infestation. Rather than being a direct sequel, Resident Evil 3 is both a prequel and a sequel. RE3 begins before the events of the second game, but ends following Leon and Claire's esc

It would be interesting to have a sort of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes type of release for the remake in order to get players excited for it and to also set up Leon better. Maybe they could even include cut content like the ghost house or the Hook
